Lilian is enjoying re-reading her collection of #littlepeoplebigdreams books since she added to them for her birthday last month. Two of these books inspired costumes for a dress-up day at school this week too (check out our previous post if you missed it!) 🎨📖

So many kind friends and family have generously sent Lilian books - gifts and loans - in recent weeks, and this week she finished two such stories. After reading three-quarters of The Beast of Buckingham Palace by @dwalliams , together - I have been sneakily encouraging Lilian to practice her expression when reading aloud - today she couldn’t wait any longer, and ploughed though to the end without me!

New to Rainbow Grey by @laura_ellen_anderson , Lilian devoured this one in two days straight! She enjoyed it so much, she has decided to get the next one with a birthday book token she has, ready to take on our summer holiday!

Lilian’s total raised for her reading efforts so far, currently stands at over £700! A wonderful achievement for Lilian, and a fantastic contribution to @treeofhopecc towards Ollie’s power chair too! 👏🏼

I managed to prise this book from my youngest who has been carrying it around the house and hid under her pillow!

To say we love this edition is an understatement in our house, my daughter is forever flying to the moon!

I think it is my love of the wonderful book Whatever Next by Jill Murphy that has inspired her love of space. Books bring the imagination to life and we have read our Neil Armstrong copy so many times already, that she knows it almost by heart.

On Neil's opening mission he became the first person to connect a spacecraft to a rocket. He almost lost his life when a tiny capsule span out of control.
This experience lead to everyone at NASA believing that he had skill, experience and nerves of steel to lead the first spaceflight in space!

I bought this story for Milo this morning because I want to have more LGBTQI friendly books in our house! The more we talk about it and the more we are exposed the more normalised things become, and that’s exactly what I want Milo to grow up knowing - it’s all normal!

I never knew much about Ru Paul’s history so thought this book would be a great place to start. And what a superstar he is! This story is paired with the brightest, sweetest, funkiest drawings. I love this entire series!

All children have been invited to attend their new classrooms as a famous figure from the continent they’ll be learning about.

Ever inspired by the amazing people at the heart of the #littlepeoplebigdreams books by @mariaisabelsanchezvegara , Lilian and her sister have dressed as two incredible females; Frida Kahlo and Malala Yousafzai. (Lilian even managed to incorporate her @mutha.hood famous strong girls tee into her costume! 💪🏼)

Discover the life of the first woman to be elected Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation!

Little Wilma was surrounded by her Cherokee heritage growing up. Her parents taught her to be proud of who she was, and all that had come before her. But when the family moved from Oklahoma’s Rocky Mountains to the city of San Francisco, Wilma fully realised how unfairly the world treated Native Americans.

As an adult, she became a leader in the fight for Native American rights, and rose to become the first woman to ever be elected as a Chief of a Cherokee Nation. 👏📚

Today is my 100th Instagram Post so I have decided to post about one of my favourite book series - Little People, Big Dreams. ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🤍🤎🖤

These are the best-selling biography series by @mariaisabelsanchezvegara .

They allow you to discover the lives of outstanding people, from designers and artists to scientists and activists. All of them achieved incredible things, yet each began life as a child with a dream. 💭

Told as a story, with a facts and photos section at the back, this sweet series for kids celebrates triumph over adversity through some of history’s favorite characters. 🕐

When I started my page, I only had read a couple of the books from the series but now they have become a firm favourite and we read one every night as a bed time story. 💤

Posted @withregram • @raising_bookworms The latest book to be released in the Little People BIG DREAMS series, and someone I wasn’t familiar with, this is Alexander von Humboldt.

Born in 1768 in Berlin, Prussia (modern day Germany), Friedrich Wilhelm Heinrich Alexander von Humboldt grew up with a keen interest in nature and dreamt of becoming a scientific explorer.

He later journeyed to South America and, guided by local indigenous people, was the first western scientist to venture up the Orinoco river, measuring the Andes Mountains, climbing volcanoes and travelling through rainforests, recording his discoveries along the way.

As a result of this, hundreds of plants, animals, mountains and rivers are named after him. Although many had (and still do have), names in indigenous languages.

A fantastic edition to the series and some stunning illustrations (especially the endpapers).

Well this is a fantastic addition to the LPBD series, as some of you may know I am a little bit of a fan of these books …. and this has well and truly earned its place. The text and the illustrations are a perfect combination to showcase The life of Elvis! ✨

The book starts in Mississippi where Elvis didn’t have a lot growing up but he loved listening to his mum’s country songs and his neighbours singing the blues.🎵

After he finished high school he courageously walked into
Sun Studios and recorded his first song. It become an overnight hit and it was the start of ROCK N ROLL! 🎤

Elvis dance moves become iconic and his songs were being played everywhere. The mix of country and blues had everyone dancing and singing. 🎶

At 24 he was drafted by the US army and spent time in Germany but he was discharged 2 years later. For the next couple of years he made lots of movies and even more hits including; A Little Less Conversation, Suspicious Minds and Can’t Help Falling in Love. 💿

At 36 he received a lifetime achievement award for his contributions to music! 🏆

Elvis is one of the biggest artists of all time and has sold over 1 billion records globally! He is the King of Rock N Roll and he changed history forever!

As always the book included an informative double page spread with pictures and facts from his life. 📷
